Abstract

The article provides a
source analysis of the magazine «Russkij
e’kskursant», which was published by the
Yaroslavl Excursion Commission. The main
purpose of the study is to determine its informative
potential for studying the history of
the student excursion movement in Ukraine
with the focus on organizational issues.
At the beginning of the twentieth century,
the magazine «Russkij e’kskursant»
was one of the most popular specialized
tourist-excursion publications of the Russian
Empire. He went out every month
during 1914–1917. The magazine’s pages
covered various issues of tourist-excursion
life of the whole empire, including in Ukrainian
territories. It published articles on the
theory and practice of excursions, stories
about the trips and planned trips, tips and
recommendations for organizing excursions,
especially in educational institutions,
background information, as well as reviews
of new thematic literature.
It is established that despite the fact that
the magazine «Russkij e’kskursant» was
published in Central Russia, it is an important
source for the history of the excursion
in Ukraine. It contains a lot of diverse information
that allows you to form a general
idea of the process of organizing student
excursions. Thematically it can be divided
as follows: planning of walks and trips; material
and technical support (travel, accommodation,
food, equipment); participation
of state authorities, local self-government
and public organizations; reference data.
