Abstract

In this article the authors
describe a relatively new phenomenon
in the tourism industry –female tourism. In
recent years, the world has witnessed an intensive
growing of the social and cultural
role of women because of some economic
and political factors, and the impact of the
popular culture on our lives as well. Thus,
this process of growing role of women has
affected the tourism industry.
For the last few years women travel statistics
has indicated that women consumers
now drive the world travel economy. Women
earn more, spend more and infl uence all levels
of travel industry. Women’s purchasing
power in the travel segment has never been
higher. Young, old, single, married, widowed
and gutsy – they are fueling an explosive
growth in travel industry.
For a long time, female tourism has been
regarded as a new separate type of tourism
by foreign scientists. Some scientists have
already classifi ed female tourists and highlighted
two main types of trips – solo female
trips (tours) and trips in small groups.
Ukrainian scientists and travel operators
have just started the research of this
tourism sector. There is very little informa
tion on female tourism in Ukrainian scientifi
c sources, hence there is a need to study
it and put results into practice to develop a
new product that will strengthen tourist income.
The authors’ research has been build on
the works of foreign and domestic scientists
and also on the data of travel web sites. The
scientists have highlighted the main reasons
that motivate women to travel and the major
features of female trips. The text of this
article is based on detailed analysis of the
information sources and the authors’ own
observations.
